Mindfulness
Highshore follows the MindUP™ programme. Students learn about the different parts of their brain and how it works as well as practising daily routines such as the guided “Brain Break” breathing exercise or ‘Chime time’. This helps students to focus on mindful breathing, listening and moving. Research shows using these mindful strategies will drive pupils’ positive behaviour, improve learning and increase empathy, optimism and compassion.
Highshore also uses the Zones of Regulation as a tool to develop emotional awareness and self-regulation. Students learn to recognise and accept their emotions throughout the day. Emotions are categorised into four coloured ‘Zones’ (Blue, Green, Yellow and Red), with each Zone providing suggested strategies to help the students move between the Zones.
At Highshore we also have weekly visits from Sherene, a qualified Yoga teacher. In these sessions the students are taken through stretches, Yoga poses and guided meditation as part of our wider wellbeing curriculum.
